Afternoon Watercolor Workshops - February Classes (2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 3/1 all 1-2:30pm)

Ready to learn the wonderful art of watercolor but unsure of where to start or are you looking to advance your skill set? Join Lana Quann, of the Wandering Brush, for workshops geared to take the intimidation out of watercolor and teach the fundamentals to begin your artistic journey. All professional art materials are included with each class.

Please feel free to sign up for one, a few, or all of the February art classes!

Who: Adults
Place: Town Hall Annex Gym, 856 Main Rd., Westport, MA

Shapes & Brushwork
In this class we will practice creating organic and natural shapes using a variety of brushes, both traditional and specialty. We will also learn how to blend colors, create interest, dry brush and how to use water as a vehicle to move pigments around.

Creating Texture in Watercolor

This fun class builds on the basics of creating depth and interest by using a variety of techniques and tools to show areas of interest in your painting. We will explore scraping, layering and adding water with salt applications. We will also discuss composition and where to add interest and marks in your picture.

Choosing Subjects & Composition

How do artists choose their subject and compose a quality painting? In this class we will work with a variety of photos and props, create thumbnails and color swatches, and learn a few components of creating a pleasing painting. We will learn how to simplify a complex scene, and learn about value and light source.

Washes
In this class we will create several small pieces using the method of washes. We will practice flat washes, variegated washes, color blending and creating wash using a bead of water. We will work with traditional transparent pigments with only two brushes. This workshop will give you the confidence of using pigment to water ratio as well as how to create the under painting of a more complex painting.
